We’re excited to share that we’ve successfully hatched our first two Black Francolin chicks of the 2026 breeding season here at Dinky Creek Feather Farm.
While two chicks may not sound like a headline-making number, those familiar with aviculture understand just how significant this accomplishment is. Black Francolin have become increasingly scarce in U.S. aviculture, making every successful hatch an important step toward maintaining and strengthening the captive population of this remarkable species.
It is both an honor and a responsibility to work with birds like these. Being entrusted with such a rare species is something we do not take lightly. Countless hours go into husbandry, nutrition, breeding management, and daily observation in hopes of giving these birds the best opportunity to thrive.
To see that effort rewarded with healthy chicks is incredibly encouraging.
We remain committed to the preservation of wild-type species and look forward to what the rest of the season may bring. For now, we’re celebrating this small but meaningful victory and are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the future of Black Francolin in American aviculture.
